Let’s talk about the olive for a moment. On its own, the olive is bitter. It’s not sweet, soft, or useful in its natural form. But put it under pressure, and everything changes. The pressing draws out the oil—the rich, sacred oil used for healing, light, nourishment, and even purification.

The olive must be crushed before it can release what’s inside.

And friend, sometimes we must endure a similar process.

Inside you are gifts, wisdom, patience, and power that don’t get revealed in easy seasons. It’s in the pressing where purpose rises. In the crushing where oil flows. In the moments you’d never choose, God produces what couldn’t come forth any other way.

Jesus in the Garden

Let’s look at Jesus for a moment. On the night before His crucifixion, He went to a garden to pray. This garden was called Gethsemane, which literally means “oil press.” It was located at the foot of the Mount of Olives. Oh, the symbolism in that alone!

Jesus, knowing what was ahead, stepped into that garden of pressing and poured out His heart to the Father. The weight was so intense that Luke 22:44 tells us He sweat drops of blood.

But in the middle of that anguish, Jesus didn’t fight the press. He surrendered to it.

“Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done.” (Luke 22:42)

That surrender didn’t make Him weak. It revealed His strength.

I know it’s hard to see it when the pain is loud and the process is long. But I promise you—on the other side of this pressing is a strength you didn’t know you had, a peace that surpasses understanding, and an anointing that can only be produced in the secret place.

Let Job remind us:

“But He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.” (Job 23:10)

And Paul? He had it right too:

“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair…” (2 Corinthians 4:8)

You may be pressed, but you are not crushed. You may feel tired, but you are not done.
