Stop Giving God Space—Give Him a Place in Your Life

Let’s talk about something we all tend to do at times: we give God space instead of a place. It sounds subtle, but there’s a world of difference between the two, and this small shift in mindset can radically transform your life. So, grab your coffee or tea, and let’s unpack this together.

Space vs. Place

Space is what we give when we’re squeezing God into our lives—like a spare corner in a cluttered room. It’s a section of our time, a little slice of our focus, or a moment when we’re desperate for help. Space says, “God, you can fit in here, but I’ve got everything else handled.”

Place, on the other hand, is intentional. It’s not a leftover; it’s a prepared seat at the table. Giving God a place means He’s at the center—not on the sidelines, not waiting for an invitation, but fully present and actively working. Place says, “God, this is Yours. My life is Yours. Do what only You can do.”

When we only give God space, we rob ourselves of what could be. Imagine inviting a master artist into your home and handing them a tiny sticky note to paint on. You’re missing out on the breathtaking mural they could create if you’d just hand over the whole wall.

It’s the same with God. Giving Him space says, “I’ll allow You here, but only in this specific way or at this specific time.” And while God can do miraculous things in the smallest of spaces, why limit Him? Why settle for less when He’s promised so much more?

When God has a place in your life, everything shifts. It’s not about squeezing Him into your plans—it’s about stepping into His. And trust me, His plans are always bigger, better, and beyond what you can imagine.

Scripture tells us in Ephesians 3:20 that God is able to do “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.” But here’s the key: His power works in us—not around the edges, but deep in the core of who we are. That requires surrender. That requires giving Him a place.

How to Move from Space to Place

  1. Clear the ClutterJust like cleaning out a room for a special guest, we need to make room for God. Let go of the distractions, doubts, and even the control you think you need to have.

  2. Prioritize Daily Time with HimThis isn’t about fitting God into your schedule; it’s about building your schedule around Him. Whether it’s prayer, reading Scripture, or simply sitting in silence to hear His voice, make it a priority.

  3. Trust Him FullyGiving God a place means trusting Him with your whole heart—not just the parts you’re comfortable with. Surrender your plans, your fears, and your dreams to Him.

  4. Invite Him into Every AreaDon’t just let God into your Sunday mornings or your prayer time when things go wrong. Invite Him into your work, your relationships, your decisions—every part of your life.

When you give God a place, He promises to show up. In Proverbs 3:5-6, we’re reminded to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

This isn’t just a feel-good verse; it’s a blueprint for life. When we stop relying on our limited understanding and give God His rightful place, He aligns everything for our good and His glory.

You weren’t created to live a life of “just enough.” God has so much more for you, but He can’t pour His blessings into a life that only gives Him space. Stop robbing yourself of the joy, peace, and purpose that come when you let Him take the lead.

So today, take a deep breath and make the decision: No more space—God gets a place. Prepare your heart, invite Him fully in, and watch what He will do in and through your life.

Heavenly Father,I’m done just giving You space in my life. I surrender it all to You—my plans, my worries, my dreams. Take Your rightful place at the center of my heart. Guide me, lead me, and help me to trust You fully. I know You have plans for me that are greater than I can imagine, and I’m ready to walk in them. Thank You for loving me and for never giving up on me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Now go ahead—clear the clutter, prepare the seat, and let God take His place. Your life will never be the same.
