When Walking Won’t Work Anymore: It’s Time to Leap Above the Surface

Alright, pull up a chair, grab your favorite drink, and let’s talk.
This isn’t a long stroll kind of conversation.
This isn’t a “one day I’ll get there” kind of moment.
This is a leap conversation.
There comes a point in life where walking just won’t do anymore.
And sprinting? Whew… sprinting will wear you out before you ever reach where you’re going.
But leaping?
Leaping changes everything.
In my prayer time this morning, I heard the Lord whisper—gentle but clear—
“It’s time to live above where you are. I didn’t create you for surface living.”
And listen… that word above settled deep.
Because surface living is comfortable.
Surface living is familiar.
Surface living is where we stay busy, distracted, and convinced we’re doing enough simply because we’re moving.
But movement doesn’t always mean elevation.
God didn’t create you just to get by.
He didn’t design you to hover at the same level year after year, season after season, waiting for conditions to improve.
He created you to rise, to leap, to live above the noise, the fear, the limitations, and the story you’ve been telling yourself.
It’s time to leap to your destiny.
Leap to your purpose.
Leap to your promise.
Leap to your peace, your joy, your hope.
And yes—leap straight into Jesus.
Because everything you’re looking for is found there.
Let’s be honest for a moment.
So many of us are stuck because of what we think we see.
We look at our circumstances, our past, our mistakes, our bank account, our age, our title—or lack of one—and we decide, “This is as far as I can go.”
But what if what you’re seeing isn’t the full picture?
What if God is saying, “Stop judging your future by your current view.”
You’ve been trying to reason your way forward instead of trusting your way forward.
You’ve been waiting for clarity when God is asking for courage.
You’ve been standing still because the ground looks uneven—forgetting He never asked you to walk it.
He asked you to leap.
Scripture talks about having feet like hinds’ feet, and that’s not poetic fluff. That’s purpose language.
A hind is a mountain deer.
Not a casual walker.
Not a slow climber.
A leaper.
Hinds are built to navigate high places. Their legs are strong, flexible, and steady. They can leap from rock to rock with confidence, even when the terrain looks impossible. They don’t wait for the mountain to flatten out. They don’t panic because the path is narrow. They trust how they were created.
And that part right there… whew.
God didn’t give you hinds’ feet so you could stay in the valley analyzing every obstacle.
He gave you hinds’ feet because He already knew the terrain would be steep.
He already knew the climb would be uncomfortable.
He already knew the leap would require trust.
You weren’t built for shallow living.
You were built for high places.
But here’s the part we don’t always like to talk about:
Leaping requires leaving.
You can’t leap forward while clinging backward.
You can’t rise while dragging fear, resentment, comparison, and old mindsets with you.
You can’t step into who God called you to be while holding onto who you used to be just because it’s familiar.
Some of what’s been weighing you down isn’t even the problem itself—it’s your grip on it.
God is saying, “Stop letting issues hinder your vision.”
Stop letting what you think you see talk you out of what I already declared.
Stop living at surface level when I’ve been calling you higher this entire time.
This isn’t about striving.
This isn’t about proving anything.
This isn’t about being perfect or having it all together.
This is about obedience.
Sometimes obedience looks like movement without full explanation.
Sometimes faith looks like stepping before you feel ready.
Sometimes peace comes after the leap, not before it.
And let me say this gently but clearly:
If you wait until you feel completely confident, you may never move.
God is not asking you to sprint into burnout.
He’s not asking you to crawl through fear.
He’s asking you to trust how He made you and leap.
Leap above discouragement.
Leap above doubt.
Leap above old labels.
Leap above what didn’t work before.
Leap above the surface-level version of faith that only moves when it’s convenient.
There is more for you.
More depth.
More joy.
More peace.
More purpose.
But it lives above where you are right now.
So today—right now—get up.
Not emotionally. Not hypothetically. Spiritually.
Shift your posture. Lift your eyes. Loosen your grip on what’s holding you back.
You don’t need a map for the whole journey.
You don’t need every answer.
You don’t need permission from people who never had the courage to leap themselves.
You just need to trust the One who gave you hinds’ feet in the first place.
This is your moment.
Not tomorrow.
Not “when things calm down.”
Not after you feel ready.
Now.
It’s time to leap into who you were created to be.
Above the surface.
Into purpose.
Into promise.
Into peace.
Into joy.
Into hope.
And straight into the arms of Jesus—where you’ve always belonged.
Tonyelle’s Take
Walking has gotten comfortable for too long. Sprinting has left many of us tired and discouraged. But leaping? Leaping requires trust, courage, and a willingness to let go. You already have what you need. God wouldn’t call you higher without equipping you to get there. Stop second-guessing what He already settled. You were never meant to skim the surface—you were designed for elevation.
Let’s Pray About It
Lord, thank You for reminding us that You did not create us for shallow living. Help us release fear, doubt, and old mindsets that keep us grounded when You’re calling us higher. Give us the courage to leap—fully trusting how You designed us and where You are leading us. Strengthen our feet for high places and our hearts for obedience. We choose today to rise above the surface and step boldly into all You have prepared for us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
If this spoke to your heart, share it with a friend or subscribe for more soul-deep encouragement.
