Ma’am, Fix Your Mouth (and Watch God Move)

When God fixes your mouth, He starts rewriting your story.

Now, ma’am… we need to talk. Because sometimes, what’s slipping out of our mouths isn’t matching what we’ve been praying for. This morning during my quiet time, I asked the Lord to help me fix my mouth — not with lip gloss or lipstick, but with grace. I said, “Lord, help my words to heal and not harm, to lift and not crush.” Because truth be told, our mouths can bless one minute and burn the next.

The Bible says life and death are in the power of the tongue — and that’s not just a poetic phrase; that’s real life. We have the power to speak life or to destroy something before it even takes root. Some of us talk too much, spilling whatever comes to mind without pausing to ask, “Should I even say this?” And some of us stay so quiet that we never release the life God’s waiting to speak through us. Either way, both silence and speech can hurt if they’re not guided by the Spirit.

Let’s be honest — we’ve all said things we wish we could take back. Words that cut too deep. Words that made the air heavy in the room. Words that were spoken out of anger, hurt, or pride. And sometimes, those words kill more than moments… they can kill peace, connection, even purpose. But here’s the good news, ma’am: God gives second chances — even to our mouths.

If you’ve ever spoken death over something — your marriage, your children, your dreams, even yourself — it’s not too late to fix it. You can breathe life back into what you once tore down. How? By repenting, asking forgiveness, and speaking again — this time, with truth and love. When you realign your words with what God says, you invite resurrection into places that looked hopeless. The situation you thought was over can live again when you start speaking life over it.

That’s the power of a fixed mouth — one that’s surrendered to God. It doesn’t mean you’ll never get frustrated again. It just means you’ll pause before you let frustration take the mic. Because when emotion drives your words, regret is usually the next stop. But when the Holy Spirit takes the wheel, peace rides shotgun.

So before you speak, ask yourself: “Am I sowing life or death with this sentence?” Because every word you plant grows into something — and I don’t know about you, but I want a garden, not a graveyard.

The world already has enough people out here speaking negativity, doubt, and division. What it needs are women — grown, wise, and Spirit-led — who speak life into dark spaces. When we open our mouths with grace and truth, God moves. He shifts the atmosphere. And before we know it, the very thing we thought was done comes back breathing, blooming, and better than before.

Tonyelle Truth for the Road:

When you let God fix your mouth, He’ll start fixing your life. Speak life over what you broke, and watch Him turn your mess into a miracle.

Let’s Pray About It:

Lord, help me fix my mouth. Forgive me for the careless words I’ve spoken out of frustration or fear. Teach me to speak life — over myself, my family, my situation, and every person I encounter. Let my words carry Your healing and Your hope. Give me the courage to revisit where I’ve spoken death and speak Your truth again. Set a watch over my lips, God, and let every word I speak bring You glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
