Peace in the Rhythm of the Waves

There’s nothing quite like sitting at the edge of the ocean. The way it keeps moving, day and night, no breaks, no pauses—just a constant flow. Yet even in its wild motion, it’s never out of control. Why? Because God set a boundary. He told the sea, “This far and no farther.” (Job 38:11) And the ocean listens. That right there is enough to stop me in my tracks. If the waters can obey His command, then surely I can trust that my life, with all its ups and downs, is also in His hands.
But God, in His goodness, didn’t leave the ocean to just obey silently. He gave it a sound. That soothing, relaxing, yet powerful sound of waves rushing and retreating. That’s not just background noise—that’s a divine playlist. It’s His invitation to slow down, breathe deep, and rest in Him.
I don’t know about you, but life can get so loud that I forget what peace feels like. Work, responsibilities, family, bills—the list goes on. Some days it feels like the current is pulling me under. But then I sit by the sea, and the sound reminds me: God is still speaking. The same God who drew a line for the waves draws lines around my life. He says, “You will not be overwhelmed. You will not be consumed. I’ve got you.”
Here’s the part that gets me every time: the ocean doesn’t panic when the winds blow. It doesn’t argue about where it’s allowed to go. It just moves, flows, and sings. And maybe that’s what God is whispering through the rhythm of the tide—don’t waste your energy fighting for control. Just trust Me. Flow with Me. Breathe with Me.
If the sea can stay in motion and still know its boundaries, then maybe I can too. I don’t have to have it all figured out. I don’t have to force what isn’t mine to carry. What I do have to do is trust the One who set the boundary lines for my life. He knows when to let things flow and when to hold things back. And in both, He is good.
So, as I sit here with sand in my toes and the sound of the waves filling my soul, I’m reminded of this truth: God not only commands creation, but He comforts His children. The sound of the sea is proof. It’s a love song wrapped in saltwater and wind, telling me, “Daughter, I am in control. Rest. Be still. Breathe.”
And maybe today, that’s what you need to hear too. You’ve been running, hustling, carrying way too much on your shoulders. But listen closely—God’s voice is in the waves. He’s telling you to sit back, relax, and exhale all that weight. Inhale His peace. Trust His boundaries. And let His sound be the soundtrack of your soul.
A Little Tonyelle Truth for the Road:
The ocean never forgets Who told it where to stop. Neither should we.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the reminder that just as You set boundaries for the ocean, You’ve set boundaries for my life. Help me to trust that nothing will overflow me without Your permission. Teach me to rest in Your rhythm, breathe in Your peace, and find comfort in Your presence. May I live each day anchored in the truth that You are in control. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
