When Exhaustion Speaks Louder Than Purpose

ree

Oh friend, I feel this so deeply—and if you’re reading this, I’m guessing you do too. Let’s just be real for a moment: life is lifing. Hard. The kind of hard where you blink and the day is done, the kind where you sit down to rest and suddenly it's tomorrow again. The cycle is on repeat, and you’re just trying to catch your breath. You’re not alone. I'm right there with you, shoulder to shoulder, heart to heart.

There comes a time when we have to say, “Enough of this autopilot living.” That’s where I am right now. And maybe that’s where you are too. Worn out. Mentally on empty. Emotionally drained. Physically just… done. I get it. And I want to speak to the part of you that’s still holding on, even if it’s just by a thread. Let me whisper some encouragement to your soul today. Not fluff. Not hype. Just truth.

You weren’t created to live a life of if.

“If I get through this workweek, then I’ll rest.”

“If I keep doing all the things, maybe I’ll finally get a break.”

“If I can just push through, maybe one day I’ll feel like myself again.”

Sound familiar? Because I’ve said every one of those things. Recently. But here’s the thing: God didn’t call us to an if life—He called us to a when life.

When you seek Him, you’ll find peace.

When you rest in Him, strength will rise.

When you trust Him, He’ll lead you right into your purpose.

When you stop trying to do it all and simply be, His grace meets you right there.

We’ve got to shift from if to when. From surviving to living. From burnout to breathing again.

And I know that’s easier said than done when your to-do list is screaming louder than your prayer time. When your job is good on paper but drains the very soul out of you. When all you want is a moment of stillness, but everything around you demands movement. It’s hard. It’s real. But it’s not permanent.

Here’s what I’m learning—and reminding myself of today, too: exhaustion is not a badge of honor. And staying busy isn't the same as staying in purpose.

I don’t want to miss what God is saying because I’m too tired to listen. I don’t want to live my whole life trying to get through my days instead of being present in them. I don’t want to keep pushing everything meaningful to “someday” because of the false comfort of if.

So how do we get back on track? Here’s what I’m starting with, and maybe you can join me:

Give yourself permission to pause. Not just a nap. A real pause. A Holy pause. One where you say, “God, I’m tired. Help me.” That’s a prayer. That’s a reset.

Carve out five minutes. Not to scroll, not to check emails, but to sit. To breathe. To let God whisper over your weary soul. Five minutes can feel like heaven when you’ve been running for days.

Stop glorifying the grind. If your hustle is costing you your health, your peace, your joy, and your relationship with God—it’s too expensive.

Speak life over yourself. Right here, right now:

“I am not my job. I am not my schedule. I am a daughter of the Most High God, and He gives rest to the weary.”

Refocus on your when. Start asking God: “When will You show me the next step?” Instead of “If I could just survive this job…”, try “When I walk in Your purpose, I know You’ll provide the way.”

Let’s not wait for a perfect moment to live the life God has promised us. Let’s start now. Right in the middle of the chaos, the fatigue, the busyness. His promises don’t require our perfection—they just need our yes.

So today, if you’re worn down, worn out, or worn thin—I see you. I am you. And I’m cheering us both on to stop chasing the hustle and start following the heart of God again. Because when we do, life begins to feel like life again.

Take a deep breath, my friend. We’re not behind. We’re just being reminded of what truly matters.

We’re shifting from if to when.

Tonyelle truth for the road:

Your purpose isn’t found in overworking—it's found in resting, listening, and walking with the One who called you. You don’t have to earn peace. It’s a promise. And my friend, it’s time to claim it.

Now go ahead and put the world on pause for a minute. Just a minute. You owe yourself that much.

If this spoke to your heart, share it with a friend or subscribe for more soul-deep encouragement.
