Let There Be

"Then God said, 'Let there be light'; and there was light."
— Genesis 1:3 (NKJV)
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to talk about everything that is wrong?
The bills.
The stress.
The doctor's report.
The family situation.
The thing that keeps replaying in your mind when you're trying to fall asleep.
If we're not careful, we can spend so much time talking about the problem that we forget who holds the solution.
The other day I found myself thinking about the very beginning.
Genesis.
Before there were oceans, mountains, sunsets, butterflies, and morning coffee.
There was God.
And what stood out to me wasn't just what He created.
It was how He created it.
He spoke.
"Let there be light."
And there was light.
As I sat with that thought, I couldn't help but wonder how different our lives might look if we spent more time agreeing with God than agreeing with our fears.
Now hear me. I'm not suggesting we ignore reality or pretend life is perfect. We all know life can throw some unexpected plot twists our way.
But what if instead of constantly speaking about the chaos, we started speaking what God says?
Let there be peace.
Let there be hope.
Let there be joy.
Let there be healing.
Let there be wisdom.
Let there be order.
Not because we're trying to tell God what to do, but because we're choosing to trust what He can do.
As I continued reading Genesis, I noticed something else.
God didn't just say, "Let there be."
He gave purpose to what He created.
He gave direction to what He created.
He even gave it a name.
The light wasn't just light. He called it Day.
The darkness wasn't just darkness. He called it Night.
Everything God created had an assignment.
Nothing was random.
Nothing was accidental.
Everything had purpose.
That made me stop and think.
Sometimes we get excited about speaking "Let there be" over our lives, but we forget that God's words always carried intention.
When He spoke, there was purpose attached.
When He spoke, there was direction attached.
When He spoke, there was life attached.
Maybe we should do the same.
Maybe we shouldn't just speak random words over ourselves and hope something sticks.
Maybe we should speak with purpose.
Maybe we should speak with intention.
Maybe we should speak in agreement with what God is doing in our lives.
Instead of saying, "I'm never going to get through this," maybe it's time to say, "Let there be strength."
Instead of saying, "Nothing is changing," maybe it's time to say, "Let there be faith."
Instead of saying, "Everything is falling apart," maybe it's time to say, "Let there be peace."
Not because the circumstances have changed.
But because God hasn't.
The older I get, the more I realize that faith isn't about controlling the outcome.
It's about trusting the One who does.
And maybe the greatest thing we can speak over our lives isn't success, opportunity, or even blessing.
Maybe it's this:
"Lord, let there be more of You and less of me."
Because God isn't just interested in changing our circumstances.
He's interested in shaping our hearts.
Tonyelle's Take
Here's a little Tonyelle truth for the road.
Be mindful of what you're agreeing with.
Are you agreeing with fear?
Or are you agreeing with faith?
Are you agreeing with the problem?
Or are you agreeing with God's promise?
We don't just throw words into the air.
We speak with purpose.
We speak with direction.
We speak with faith.
The next time you find yourself focusing on everything that is wrong, pause and ask yourself:
"What do I need to speak life over today?"
Then start there.
Let's Pray About It
Father, thank You for being the God who speaks light into darkness and purpose into everything You create. Help us to be intentional with our words and mindful of what we are agreeing with. Teach us to speak peace instead of panic, faith instead of fear, and hope instead of discouragement. Let our words reflect our trust in You and remind us that You are still working, even when we cannot see it. Let there be more of You in our hearts and lives every day. In Jesus' name, Amen.
If this spoke to your heart, share it with a friend or subscribe for more soul-deep encouragement.
